Convertibles are allowed on track ONLY if you can pass the “Broomstick Test” AND the below minimum standard checklist:
In motorsport, the “Broomstick Test” is a typical practice to rest a broomstick across the top of the windshield and the roll bar hoop while the occupants are seated in the vehicle to determine whether the roll bar hoop is high enough. If the top of any occupants’ helmet is above this plane, the roll bar is not going to provide sufficient protection.
Sufficient roll bar hoop height can also be an issue for tall drivers; in part because the roll bar hoop is designed by the manufacturer for street use (driving without the additional height of a helmet). It is your responsibility to confirm you have sufficient roll bar height before registering for our events.
- You understand it is an added risk to take an open top on track as if the car ends upside down, your head may take the impact.
- The FIRM is not a manufacturer expert and can only provide a guide based on google and customer research.
- The FIRM is not responsible, nor making absolute claims, nor liable for your vehicle; that is your responsibility.
- Vehicles we know need a 4pt and/or after market Roll Bar:
-
- Mazda Miatas 2005 and older (NA/NB) must have a 4pt roll bar. 2006 and newer (NC/ND) do not, though it is highly recommended.
- All convertible Mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes (C8 is only exception) must have an aftermarket roll bar
- Vehicles we believe have factory rollover protection or an aftermarket roll bar; are listed below – so if your vehicle is older than 2006 and not on the below list – then you will not pass.
- Most Vehicles built after 2006 have built in roll over protection (check your safety manual if you are unsure) or call your local dealership. We can not figure this out for you – we’ve provided a good guide but there are always exceptions only the owner and/or manufacturer will know.
- Please do not call us – only very specific people would possibly know the answer. So if you really have tried all your own efforts then email [email protected] but understand it may take up to 7 days before someone has time to do research and get back to you.
